Pele

About 10 years ago I fell in love...with a rock. I was at a gem show and this rock screamed "Pick me up and really LOOK at me!" The man selling it told me it was "X", but I knew it wasn't; I didn't care. I saw what was in this gem and I had to have it. I named "her" Pele. I have shown this stone to many people since; when I have a customer looking for something but not knowing just what....but this rock just hasn't been "right". All good things come to those who wait, I suppose; perhaps I needed to mull over the design of the stone and how best to bring her forth. A couple weeks ago I picked her up and started to think about a setting. There is a vein of quartz in the lower portion, so I wanted to have the ability to shine light through. No drawings, just my tools, sterling silver, 18kt gold, and more stones. This is what I made, and I've just listed her for sale in my shop. She can be worn a few different ways due to the forged rings sprinkled in along the beaded strand. Last night a woman I'd just met looked at the necklace and exclaimed one word: "Pele!"   ...   Yes.
