CDL jewelry micro-mosaics are made with tiny glass seed beads and colored grout, unlike traditional Italian micromosaics which were made with tesserae of glass encapsulated in a mixture of beeswax. These beaded micro-mosaics average about 350 beads per square inch.
I primarily use size 15° glass seed beads, which measure approximately 1mm x 1.5mm. With a pair of fine point tweezers, each bead is carefully laid into the frame--embedded in epoxy--standing on its edge so the hole is not visible. Once the entire frame is filled with a beaded design, the epoxy is allowed to cure, and a final layer of colored tile grout is added to stabilize the micro-mosaic. Once cured this finish is water resistant and durable. But remember; these materials are glass and grout, so they can be broken if dropped, pinched, twisted or impacted (hit) in any way.
